Disney Guard Battered Over Mask Rules
Cops: Perp said, "They will have to shoot me to leave"
AUGUST 27--A Disney worker was struck in the head by a theme park patron who became upset when told that a mask worn by one of his children did not meet safety standards.
Cops say Enrico Toro, 35, was at Epcot in Orlando, Florida earlier this month when he allegedly battered a 29-year-old security guard at the park’s check-in area.
When Toro, accompanied by his wife and three children, arrived at Epcot, he was told that the masks the family were wearing did not meet Disney’s safety requirements. So the family returned to their car and came back a few minutes later with new masks.
However, when Disney guard Michael Drake declared that one of the children “still did not have a proper mask,” Toro exploded, saying, “Call the police, they will have to shoot me to leave.”
As Drake reached for his phone to dial a supervisor, Toro struck him in the head, according to an arrest affidavit. As Toro’s wife pushed him away, cops allege, he “began threatening that he knew where [Drake] lived and was going to kill him.”
Drake’s account of the confrontation was corroborated by three witnesses who provided police with sworn statements.
Seen above, Toro, who lives in Orlando, was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge. He is free on $500 bond in advance of his arraignment on September 15.
As detailed on its web site, Disney will not admit anyone wearing “neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind.” (1 page)
